First release of Drupal Google Calendar node synchronization plugin

I have submitted the module to the Drupal community for review and am just waiting on full git access to be granted for the project.

I have made a few changes in the way Tokens are processed and have creating, updating and deleting calendar entries working smoothly. I am not exactly happy with bundling Zend with this module, but I was not about to re-write bindings for the Google Data APIs. The hard part of dealing with Google APIs in Drupal really is the lack of lightweight bindings.

Does anyone want to buy my old acoustic guitar?

So, I’m selling my first acoustic guitar to make room for my new Taylor 514. We recorded If Only You Were Dead, I’d Be Happy on the Jolly Rogers album with this guitar back in 2004. It has served me well, but it is time to make room for my absolutely gorgeous Taylor 514CE.

Does HTML5 <audio> work in my browsers of choice? The answer is “yes” for Chrome, Firefox and the stock Android 3.2 browser. The browser in Cyanogen 7.0 sees the audio tag and knows to render a player widget but will not play my audio.

Nexus One & Gingerbread & Bleeding Edge

So, thanks to the devs over on xda-forums, I am up past 3am fiddling with the innards of my Nexus One. So far, I have installed the Chris Soyer Gingerbread build. It works, basically. I have no access to my address book or my Google Account. We’ll see where this goes in the next 24 hours. Gingerbread is a nice refresh of the Android UI, though. I don’t see any massive changes, but it looks good.

New site

After a great deal of slacking, I have finally decided to get some work done on marcinkowski.ca.

I am currently unsure what I will use this site for. I will move my old blog entries over from blog.marcinkowski.ca from my Summer of Code project in 2009 soon to keep my web presence consistent. I should figure out how to have my old entries redirect to their new home here at marcinkowski.ca.

Maybe I am okay with a guitar, after all

I bought a new digital recorder, the Zoom H4, to record dialogue and sound effects this weekend for the Hamilton 24 Hour Film Festival. I also rented an Audio Technica AT8015, which was recommended by the recording guy at Long & McQuade. I could write a whole entry about filming last night. Maybe I will later once our 5-minute film has screened in front of audiences.

I have wanted a digital recorder for quite some time, mostly to record my endless noodling on my guitars. I often jam to the sound of my own drum, having no one else to play with, and I come up with a lot of little ideas for parts of songs, but have had no way to capture them until now. I don’t take my guitar playing seriously; I’m playing in my bedroom with no band, after all. While playing, I am more involved in the feeling of making the notes come out of my hands and through my guitar, so I rarely have the clarity of mind to observe the sounds and compare them to all of the music that I’ve heard in my life; which, I think, is pretty much what your brain does when listening to music.
