In the early days, it was easy to put HTML on the internet, if you had a server#

Back when the internet was young, it was hard to get a webserver. In the early 2000s (probably 2000-2006) a friend of mine was a member of a great IRC channel #distributedlounge on an IRC network I don’t recall (EFNet?), and so I got invited and had my first online chat room experience since the mid-90s chat rooms (which I also can’t recall the name of 30 years later?!).

Servers were expensive, and very few people had access to one with a good internet connection. I was lucky because a friend of a friend had access to an old BSD machine in some data center somewhere in North America. I eventually asked for some hosting space and put up some early urban exploration (Urbex)
